Of Palaces and Deserts

In life, people often encounter two very different experiences: times in palaces and times in deserts. The palaces represent moments of happiness, tranquility, peace, and prosperity when we feel blessed and content. The deserts symbolize difficult times filled with struggles, needs, anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

As Christians, we know that both joy and sorrow are part of our journey as well. The Bible contains many examples of this truth. Abraham, David, Ruth, Esther, and even Jesus and His disciples faced both good times and bad. Each story teaches us valuable lessons on how to handle both the palaces and the deserts.

The 33rd Women’s Seminar of Northeast Brazil, held once a year, chose the theme “Between Palaces and Deserts: How to Maintain Your Identity.”

About 250 women gather in the city of Belo Jardim, about three hours from Recife, to enjoy four days of fellowship and Bible lessons on this important theme. Keeping our light shining even in dark moments and trusting God beyond our circumstances are needs we all share.

Many women of all ages come from different cities, but I am most impressed by the elderly ones like Maria, who is 84. She traveled by bus for 11 hours to attend the seminar. She amazes me with her sweet spirit and courage.

To me, Maria, who became a Christian 22 years ago, is a true princess of Jesus.
