Dear brothers and sisters,

I would like to share with you a special project that my niece, Bettina, and I have completed. We have produced a documentary titled “Here I Am, Send Me,” which highlights the beginnings of the Church of Christ’s mission work here in Recife, Brazil.

The documentary focuses on the early years of the mission. It features interviews with the pioneer missionaries and their wives, who share what it was like to leave the USA, the unique challenges they faced, and the immense blessings of the work. It also includes the moving testimonies of several native church workers who were the fruit of this faithful effort.

This is not a story about perfect or extraordinary people. Rather, it is about ordinary individuals—with their own weaknesses and imperfections—who simply decided to obey Jesus’ command to go and preach the gospel. At its heart, this story is about what God can accomplish through ordinary people; He has always used jars of clay. From that small, initial group, God multiplied the work and established vibrant congregations throughout Recife and beyond.

For a long time, I dreamed of preserving this history so it would never be forgotten. This documentary is the fulfillment of that dream, and I hope it serves as a deep encouragement to everyone who watches it. Our children and many newer Christians know little about our beginnings.

I am thankful to God for allowing us to tell this story, and I am especially grateful to the churches that have supported this mission through the years. You are an essential part of this journey. Truly, how can they go unless they are sent?
